What are your goals?

Now that my wedding is over (yay! I'm Mrs. Daniela now!), I have a lot more free time on my hands. Well, maybe not a LOT, but definitely more. Anyway, I put many of my dance goals on the back burner as the wedding got closer and closer, and now I'd like to re-focus my energy on dance 100%. I have a few goals I'd like to accomplish over the next few months. Here's what I'm thinking:

  • Go to more workshops. I was on my honeymoon during Rakkasah East, so I missed out on some great opportunities there (not that I'm complaining, because I was on my honeymoon...). I'd like to aim for one workshop a month, but I know budget and time restraints will be an issue, so I'd be happy with one every two months.
  • Put together a sword workshop. This is something that many of my students have expressed interest in - I'd like to do a two-day sword workshop, spread over two weeks' time. I think that this will be great for all students who have a good handle on the basic isolations, and want to add a prop to their performance repertoire
  • Buy a new costume!! Ok, this might not seem like a legitimate goal to some, but I have not bought a new costume in months - I didn't want to spend the money so close to the wedding! But now I'm due!! So, I'm on the hunt for a new sparkly.....
  • Choreograph show dances. It's that time of year again. Time to start getting ready for the annual student showcase. Planning on my end begins way before the actual show - before anyone can start learning their dances, I need to choreograph them!
  • Blog more. I know, I know. I always say I'm going to do this. But now that the wedding is over, I really mean it this time!

So...what are your bellydance goals?

I think buying a new costume is a totally legitimate goal. :)

Funny you mention it... while you were away, i was thinking just the same...What are my bellydance goals this year?

So here it goes... My Bellydance goals for now and 2008:
I want to become a more seasoned dancer. I want to focus more on technique and grace. I would also like to take a stab at performing with props... such as zills, wings and a sword.

To help me get there I plan to:

Pick up 1 or 2 more classes a week. I will go back to beginner to help strengthen my technique.

I also thought taking workshops atleast 3-4 times a year.

Go see more shows. Atleast 1-2 times a month.

Read!!! Familiarize myself with the history of bellydance and all the different styles.

And lastly practice. I will go home and practice Drills and Isolations.

Although, I can not take any more than the 5-6 classes I take a week, I feel I have much more to accomplish in my dancing technique. While thinking of my goals, I realized how much they have changed especially since the Student Showcase last April…So here it goes…

My current goals are to…continue to work on my performance anxiety & building confidence (it has got a lot better from a summer workshop & a recent performance)
…dedicate more time to Zilling
…not just going through a routine to go through a routine but dissecting and distinguishing each move
…pay attention to the basics-arms, hands, finger placements & movements, hip drops, shimmies, foot placements, etc….As the saying goes “A house is only as good as the foundation it is built on” (or something like that)

I have been thinking about my belly dance goals for a while. Since I have started law school I have only focused myself in school when in fact I know that I love bellydance so much and that I don't want to give it up.

So....I plan on starting with the Sunday class although I miss Tuesday's class. I will also try to take as much of the workshops offered. I am interested in taking workshops for zills, sword and isis wings. I think those workshops would be a great introduction of props for us.

Also, I would love the to do a show, of course when the opportunity arises and if my schedule allows it. Once the semester is over I hope on taking as many classes as I can. A minimum of 3! I said "Hope." But that may be for a short period of time b/c my schedule will be the same for next semester :(
